Screened Porch Love

May 14, 2012 | 18 Comments

If you came over to visit me today, we would definitely bring our sweet iced tea and have a seat on our screened porch. It is one of my favorite places to study my Bible, read a book, or take a little siesta.

I bought this aluminum glider, which I think is from the 50’s or 60’s, at a garage sale last summer. I gave it several coats of white spray paint, and since it was cushion-less, I tried my hand at reupholstering.
The cost of foam for the cushions about caused me to have a heart attack, so I ripped up an old couch we were going to get rid of anyway, and used the foam from it. (Thanks to the clerk at Jo-Ann fabrics for the idea!)
This is the perfect spot for a nap. My tall husband can even get comfy on it.

Here is a close-up of the table my dad made for us out of an old chicken crate I had in the basement. Many of the yardsticks are very old and came from businesses that used to be in our community. I had fun searching for them, and they are quite a conversation piece for company. I got the idea for this project from The Lettered Cottage.

We enjoy having breakfast on this little table, which I purchased cheap at an auction. Note to self: get rid of that TV antenna. It isn’t even hooked up! Ugly, ugly, ugly.

I love this little chandelier hanging over the table!

Old metal lawn chairs -swoon! It doesn’t show well in this photo, but this little chair has the cutest swirly decoration on its back. Can’t wait for my impatiens to peek over the top of the old fern stand and the green plant to spill over the front.

I just love white flowers. Aren’t these pretty?
Thanks for stopping by for a few minutes even if our visit was only “virtual”!
Where is your favorite spot in your house?
Hugs,

Linking up today to…..

OH MY GOSH – I'm in love with that area. You've inspired me – we have an enclosed back porch, but its full of dirty throw rugs, old socks that the dogs have drug out & dead bugs… I want to make mine pretty like yours!!!

My favorite spot? On the front porch in my rocker, with my dog at my feet… love that space

What a charming place to sit and visit. We love our screened porch too especially since it's too buggy to sit outside .

Susan-That is a perfect porch. What fun it would be to sit there and enoy a cold drink with you. Love the table that your Dad made and your white flowers are gorgeous.

I have been looking for an old glider like that for years. Was it kind of a toned down green color or red? I had two Aunts that had them….my 2 favorite Aunties…and one was green and one was red. I would sit there for hours with books and read. I have never seen one as an adult. xo Diana

You've got so many great ideas here I don't know where to start! I am getting ready decorate our new front porch and you've got all the elements here I had in mind. I just wish I was this far along. That candle chandy might be my favorite thing but then again the metal lawn chair, and the glider….I'm just going to stop before I sound gushy. Great job!

We are just starting to plan our dream home build so it is so lovely to see your beautiful porch. It looks so peaceful and pretty – exactly what I would like for our home. Sherylee.

Love your screened porch! I used to have some chairs that matched your glider many years ago. When I saw that table I immediately thought of the Lettered Cottage. Then I read on and saw that it was. Precious table!

It's all so pretty and I wish I could pop over, if you'd have me!!! The yardstick table is awesome, what a great idea. Love the white hanging basket and candolier.

My favorite spots are the front porch – when there are no mosquitoes about – and the screened gazebo off the back deck where I'm safe from any buzzing things!

Happy days in the garden Susan.
