It’s a Wonderful Life

April 7, 2013 | 15 Comments

But it may not feel like it at times.

It seems like everyone I know is going through tough times. I don’t need to list all the troubles; we all know what they are.

My question is: How do people get through the struggles of this life without acknowledging God’s love for them, without his spirit dwelling in them?

That would make the hard times, impossible.

But like the old hymn says, “This world is not my home. I’m just a passing through.”

I want to share with you a resource that I found in No Other Gods, the study by Kelly Minter that a group of us are knee deep into.

I hope that you find it helpful; I know I did!

If you’re…

  • going through a difficult time, read Psalm 116.
  • going through a season of joy and thanksgiving, read Psalm 145.
  • needing confession and restoration, read Psalm 51.
  • struggling with identity and self-worth, read Psalm 139.
  • in a time of crisis, read Psalm 143.
  • needing wisdom and instruction (and have a bunch of time), read Psalm 119.
  • longing for intimacy with God, read Psalm 42.
  • wanting wisdom and encouragement, read Psalm 37.
  • wanting to be reminded of God’s greatness and power, read Psalm 18.

So many times, God gives us just the right word at just the right time. I experienced that again this week on a morning when I was just about ready to sit down and bawl about everything.

I went into the restroom of our local coffee shop and written on the chalkboard door were these words,

“Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares about you.”

                                                                                             I Peter 5:7

That made me feel so much better!

Praying my words can be an encouragement to someone today!

Great scripture references! Our extended family has been going through so many challenges lately and I agree – just don't know how people cope without that Hope that God speaks into our lives.

Excellent words of wisdom; without God, I would have killed myself when Dave died. We are aliens in this world; this world is not our home. Thank God!

I have often wondered, too, Susan, how people ever get through those dark days without God in their lives. It must feel hopeless and they must feel helpless. Great post here today-xo Diana

I cannot imagine going through heartache and loss without God. I know so many who are struggling, but in Christ, we have hope!

Susan, Thank you for the references. I have had days where it seems the whole day is one long continuous prayer. You can always talk to God. You don't need a special phone, computer program, or fancy staionary. It's great. xoxo,Susie

I just bookmarked this post! There were plenty of times when I wished I could have an inspiring snippet from the Bible but didn't even know where to start to find it, so this was just what I needed. I wouldn't say I'm very religious, but I definitely think I need God's help to maneuver through this tricky life
