How to Read the Bible in One Year

December 31, 2021 | Leave a Comment

Hello, Friends!

Are you tired of living the same old day over and over and over? Are you ready to start living in your purpose and calling? May I suggest that a great way to start is to read the Bible in One Year? Let’s talk about how and why you should do this!

But first…..

2022. How in the world? I’m still partying like it’s 1999-as long as the party is over early and I’m in bed by ten. Time really does fly when you are having fun and surviving a pandemic and looking for blessings amongst the trials.

I’ve loved seeing many of you at Flo’s Coffee Bar since it opened at Thanksgiving. Who knew I would add barriasta to my resume? For those of you who aren’t local, our Brady and his wife Alissa and their four daughters have opened the cutest little coffee place in Newton. The community has embraced it with open arms and it has been all hands on deck to keep up with all the business. What a blessing!

Community, Conversation, Coffee- just what our little town needed.

How to Read the Bible in One Year

Now to today’s topic. I had no idea when I asked if anyone wanted to read the Bible with me a couple of years ago that so many people would say yes. The easiest invitation I’ve ever offered and the one that God used to bless us. I learned a lot from that-we don’t have to do something “big” for God. We just need to invite people. God does the work.

Several of us read through the Bible together and listened to Bible Recap-thank you Tara Leigh Cobble for being obedient. Her saying yes has CHANGED PEOPLE’S LIVES.

Funny, I wanted people to respond and engage with one another about what they read in our facebook group, but the first year NO ONE DID. I wrote a response/reflection following each day’s reading and was a little pouty that I was the only one. After teaching for 25 years, I was used to people doing the assignment that I gave, but that year the one who was supposed to follow through was ME.

I can be bossy and I’m learning to boss myself, not anyone else. (Brad might have a different opinion, but oh, well.) Gosh, I wish there were blog emojis.

In 2021, several more jumped on the Bible reading train and people started sharing. I loved reading what God was showing everyone and was so encouraged. Thank you, friends!!!

As we get ready to start 2022, I’m hoping more and more of you commit to reading the Bible.

No other book will impact you like reading GOD’s HOLY WORD. It is alive and active and CHANGES US.

The People Said…..

Here is what some of my friends said about the experience…..

Denise Hahn….

I have kept up everyday. It has impacted my life in so many ways. I have also been involved in CBS this year and will continue that into next year.
My husband would love to join me again next year so please include us in the list of devoted Bible readers and followers of scripture.
Julie Short…
I’m on track to finish December 31! I didn’t think I would stay with it when I started. I would get behind two or three days at the most but I always caught up! Reading God’s word every day grew my relationship with Him! It made me want to walk closer, try harder, listen more (I’m still working on that). I didn’t know Jesus was around during the Old Testament. I wish the world knew that God is still in control even though things seem a mess. And God wants everyone to accept Jesus as Gods son and as their personal Savior !! He chose us made us and has a purpose for each one of us! I’ve seen God grow others that were reading daily! I thank God for using you Susan to help others grow in Him by experiencing His beautiful, wonderful, living word! I don’t make New Years resolutions. I just try every year to grow in my relationship with God and grow more to be who God wants me to be! I definitely grew this year! Praise God. If you want to grow in the Lord no greater way than to read his word!

Bill and I did the recap together and would listen in the car to the recaps. It brought us both so much joy to discuss the Word together. We now plan to read the Bible again for 2022. Walking together closer in the Word has been so good 😊!
Vickie Adams Barrickman
I’m on track, I get so excited to listen to the recap first thing in the morning. It’s brought me closer to God. I would love to do it again. I’ve learned that God is where the joy is. I wish the world would love the way God did.

I finished up today because the rest of my week is busy and I didn’t want to get behind. I’m a quitter by nature so I’m proud of myself. My word for 2021 is achieve so I had to complete this. I do recommend this program. I’m not doing it in 2022, I want to take different books, read slower and study the scriptures with my commentary. I think I’ll start with Roman’s.
Theresa Zuber
I’ve read through the Bible one other time but the podcast was so helpful. Also knowing I was doing it with so many others helped me stay accountable to keeping on track. Fell behind a few times but didn’t take long to catch right back up.
I wish the world would open this book and see all the treasures it holds.
I know God has a plan and is in control – now more than ever because if reading through his word.
This is a habit I hope I continue / digging deeper because I know that his word is alive and although it never changes – I see different things each time I dig in.
Robbie Ginder
I’m on track to finish Dec 31. I have enjoyed this journey, learned so much and feel much closer to God. It has made me more compassionate, caring and patient. I loved all of the comments, they were helpful as was the recap and Tara’s comments. I look forward to doing it again in 2022. I would definitely miss it each day, if I didn’t.
Kevin Colclasure
I didn’t get in on the OT with you all even though I read through the OT on my own. I liked the accountability of reading through the NT and reading people’s comments on how God spoke to their hearts. I always commented on what I read before listening to Tara share her insights. Unfortunately, I got to the place where I would read, comment, and pray but would not go back to listen to Taras recap. I may do that in 2022, go back and listen to her recaps. I’d be interested in doing the OT if you do it again simply because I always come across something new or have those ahaha moments that I’ve not had before.
I will finish for sure, only two more laps to this run, so the goal is in sight and will feel good to have read the NT in the time allowed.
Reading God’s Word always draws me closer to God, makes me more worshipful and joyful in knowing whose I am and what I have in Jesus. Keeps me on track and more aware of Jesus around me and more aware of the evil that is trying to derail what the Holy Spirit is doing in me.
Kiley Borgic
I started my first round through TBR in early 2020. Come January 2021, I started round two!
I’m on track to finish in two days, and I plan to start again with the OT on Jan. 1.
It is the perfect start to my day.
I find myself looking forward to learning more. I am noticing things this time that I didn’t catch last time, and I’m excited to see what new things God will open my eyes to in round 3.
If you’re debating on doing this again… I highly recommend it!! You’ll learn more about God each time!
I find myself seeing God is everyday moments of my life where I couldn’t always see Him before.
I pray more people open their hearts to him. I pray more people are open to His word. What better way to get to know him, than through His word!
I have actually considered a different podcast to go along with the daily readings, but I haven’t found one that I seem to like more than TBR.
Bethany Marshall
I was doing so well with the Bible Recap, then summer came and I got way behind! I tried catching up when school started and decided not to finish the OT and instead jump in with the New Testament when it started. Then, guess what…December came and I got behind again! I’m upset with myself, but I know if I really pray about this, I can accomplish reading my Bible daily in 2022. It’s going to take a lot of discipline, but I want to do it! I’ve gotten so much out of it so far and I’m proud of myself because I’ve never read this much of the Bible in my life! It’s been good! I love how she explains it for me too.
Amy Lemke
I started with the New Testament and loved it. I got behind and a couple weeks ago and then my kids were home and felt I would never get caught up. I do two other smaller daily devotionals, so it wasn’t like I was not spending time with God, but at first I was really upset with myself. Then I thought this more about spending quality time with God than checking off the boxes. So I am taking a different approach in 2022. Although I am going to try to stay caught up, I want to enjoy it and not worry about how far I get each day. I did learn so much and loved all your comments.
Barb Kirts
I was doing good, then got behind and could not get caught up so ended up giving up – ugggg! What I got through was so good and the perspective of those commenting and the Bible Recap broadened my view. I need a redo!

How to Read the Bible in One Year

Here is how we will be reading through the Bible this year in the group. Shout out to Theresa Zuber for writing up these instructions for us. She is the best!

Instructions:

The easiest way to stay on track with the Bible Recap is to utilize the following two apps in your smartphone.

You Version Bible app and Podbean podcast app. Both are free and work together giving you the tools you need to help you succeed!

You Version Bible app has multiple versions of the Bible to choose from such as NIV, King James, the Message, etc. some versions even have audio to read the Bible to you. It also has Bible reading plans including The Bible Recap plan!

Podbean allows you to listen to the Bible Recap podcast on the preferred podcast app. It works best in this one.

Step One: From the App Store download both apps. Open the Bible app and click at the top to explore the versions available and how you maneuver through the books and chapters when searching for a passage.

Step Two: Click “plans” at the bottom and search for The Bible Recap with Tara-Leigh Cobble. Be sure to choose the full plan not the New Testament only. And choose start plan on January 1st.

Step Three: Then go to your Bible app first and read or listen to the assigned chapters. (Or get the assignment and read it in your Bible. ) Once complete, listen to the corresponding podcast for those readings.

Step Four: Go to the thread on the Morning Exhale page and comment or read others comments about the day’s readings. It’s so encouraging and helpful to spur one another on!!

Morning Exhale Monthly Comment Hosts

This year we are trying lots of new things in Morning Exhale. One of them is Monthly Comment Hosts. Although I will not be posting the reading assignment each day or the podcast link, we will still have a place to share and develop community.

Each month there will be a new thread for all Bible Recap discussions for that month. Gracious volunteers will be serving as comment hosts for the month. They will post their reading reflections and engage others in discussion about what we are reading. Please rest assured that we want to know what YOU think.

Your thoughts, questions, opinions, ideas are VALUABLE TO ALL OF US. So share away!

Option Two

Another option if you prefer the old school method (which is just fine!) print out the plan HERE:  Bible Recap printed plan
Then go to your podcast app and listen to the Bible Recap and go to Morning Exhale and join the discussion.
Either way is just fine!

Final Thoughts

I know how our brains work, so if your brain is offering you thoughts like “this is too hard” “I can’t do this” “I’m too old to learn all this technology” “I quit already” …..just STOP IT. Your brain is just being your brain.
Be the BOSS of your brain.
Pick a new thought….I can do this, I can do new things, God’s word is worth learning new technology.
Most people don’t like change, so if the old way was working for you and you are upset about the changes, I understand. BUT, this way will be EASIER for all of us. No more searching for the day we are on if you get behind. Whew. You will love it, I promise.
I am so excited for you, friends! Once you have settled your belief in Jesus as your Savior, then the sanctification process begins. How can God transform you into who he created you to be if you don’t spend time with Him? Being in the WORD is life-changing. It is YOU changing.
Maybe you aren’t a believer yet. That is fine. You are where you are and are so welcome to join us anyway. I dare you to read through the best selling book of all time and just see what happens.
Woo hoo!!! Let’s get started! Tell me everything-your thoughts, feelings, suggestions, concerns.
God put us in this little community so we could encourage and lift one another up and spur one another on to love and good deeds.
I am so thankful.
Much love, friends.
Susan
