File It!

April 3, 2013 | 9 Comments

Sweat socks.

Gallons of milk.

Sinks of dirty dishes.

Running.

Wrestling.

Sports Equipment.

As the mother of three sons, for years these words defined my life. And I loved every minute of it!

My life is different now because we have 2 daughters-in-law and 3 granddaughters.

Estrogen and near-estrogen rules.

Along with that comes lots of conversations about decorating, and clothes, and recipes, and nail polish.

And sharing magazines.

This chair wasn't always a cute gray and white with fuchsia trim. See the transformation http://www.hgtv.com/decorating-basics/rehabbed-and-reupholstered-chairs/pictures/page-8.html?soc=pinterest#

Which brings me to the topic of this post. Hope you are still with me!

One of the girls shared her copy of HGTV magazine. It has some great tips that I want to remember and thought you might enjoy them, too.

Love this ombre painting. The mag has a tutorial. I can’t find it online though. Sorry!

So, I am filing those tips here.

Ideas from Sarah, My favorite designer:

  • Sarah Richardson says to choose colors of the same intensity…..they should be the same distance down on each paint strip.
  • She also suggested playing with one color in different shades for a more soothing and simple look.
  • Bright colors also call for lots of neutrals to balance all the color.
  • Pull colors from fabric or artwork.

I love her living room, don’t you?

    Susan, I've never
    seen the magazine,
    but of course, love
    their shows! Did you
    ever see the series
    about Sarah R's cottage
    on a little island in
    Canada? I just loved
    that series and that
    sweet house!

    Happy Spring,
    my friend….

I have never looked at this magazine
I used to watch the channel all the time, but now it seems like all that is ever on are buy and remodeling house shows
Might have to pick up a copy and check it out

I have never read the magazine, flipped thru it in line at the store. I love the raspberry colored couch in the picture. My favorite magazine lately has been Sothern Living. Go figure from a girl up north!

And now they're filed in my brain too! That thing about choosing colors of the same intensity was really interesting.

    She is my favorite too!
I haven't watched any t.v. in a long time though and did not know HGTV had a magazine but it doesn't surprise me.
I probably won't do any decorating until my three boys get out of college.
