Hello, friends!
Today, I am going to tell you the story of how I broke up with Claritin D, but before I do, let’s talk about YOU!
How are you? How is your family? Are you getting back to normal? What goals are you working on this month? Hit reply and fill me in. I really want to know!
Something that I notice every spring and fall on social media and in real life is people complaining about allergies and sinus issues. Of course, I don’t know the story behind all of that, but I feel really bad for them.
These nose-woes make me really sad because it has been my experience that we don’t have to live stuffed up, with yucky drainage going down the back of our throats, gulping down decongestants and taking endless rounds of antibiotics.
That sounds gross, and it was.
Notice I said WAS.
Here is my sinus story. (I never imagined this would be a topic I’d write about when I started this little blog all those years ago!) But here we go…..
How I Broke Up with Claritin D
For YEARS of my life, I suffered with sinus headaches and all the accompanying problems that come with clogged sinuses. The worst for me was how absolutely run down a constant sinus infection made me.
And the foggy headed way it made me feel. Can you relate?
It pretty much sucked. (And I don’t use that word lightly. Or often. It seems appropriate here though.)
Going to the drugstore every few days because meth makers like decongestants, too, showing my license to purchase Claritin D, and taking one pill every morning was my routine.
Then there were the multiple rounds of antibiotics I took every year trying to get rid of an infection that was STUBBORN and never totally seemed to go away. Who wants to live like that? Not me.
Sidebar:
Do you read the package inserts that are included with your medicines? I just looked up the side effects of Claritin D and 38 “less serious” ones are listing, including ringing in the ears. Maybe that is where my tinnitus came from.
I’m too scared to look up the dangers of Amoxicillin, Augmentin and the antibiotic I took lots of at the end of my struggles-the one you only take for a few days but it works for longer. Know the one I’m talking about?
Anyhoo. Back to my story.
After years of struggling and wondering if I would eventually have to have sinus surgery, I stumbled upon essential oils. Pride and puffed up defense of my way of doing things kept me from using them at first, but I was desperate for sleep (a story for another day) so I gave Lavender a try. Then Peppermint.
Then I went head-long into the Young Living oily world.
Here is what works for me……
That’s when I discovered the Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint combo and things began to change for me. I added Ningxia Red into the mix which knocked things up another level.
And after a few months of steady use, bye bye Claritin D. So long antibiotics.
The ringing is still in my ears, but maybe that can serve as a reminder to look for natural options first.
This woman who spent a lot of time and money at the doctor’s office for sinus issues hasn’t had a sinus infection for longer than I can remember. It has been years since I took an antibiotic.
Developing a regimen around my allergy and sinus challenges took me a bit of trial and error, but I have it down pat for now. If you are curious, hit reply and ask for my protocol. Happy to share it with you!
Rachel Barnett says
What is your sinus/allergy protocol. I had mine under control naturally for nearly 20 yrs, and now they’ve stayed back up. Most dais are now filled with sniffling, coughing, and sinus pressure.
Susan says
That is no fun! I have found for me that I need to switch things up once in awhile. The protocol is coming your way!
Sue Volk says
I would love your sinus protocol! I’m taking a decongestant and Mucinex daily now.
Thanks!
Susan says
Oh, gosh! I’m so sorry to hear that your sinuses are giving you fits. I emailed the protocol, but will send in a message, too!

I’d love to have your protocol! I’ve been miserable for a month now. The worse I’ve ever had sinus and allergies. I was thinking of calling the doctor but clicked on your blog. I’ve been using Panaway, RC, thieves chest rub and a roller I made awhile back for a sore throat from all the drainage. I’m venturing out more; it would be good to see you. I saw Brad at church a few weeks ago but he was talking and I didn’t want to interrupt him to say hello. Love you sweet Susan.
Susan says
Gosh, I miss you, and I’m so sorry you have been feeling poorly. I’m happy to send you my what has worked for me. Lots of people miserable with allergy/sinus stuff right now, it seems. Love you and can’t wait to see you!

Hey sweet Lady, things are getting “summer time” busy here at the beach. Lots of weekends with family and friends headed this way. You don’t have to do a DNA test to discover who is family when you have a beach house lol. We just replaced ALL the flooring in the house, took 7 full days. I love the new floors but I’m not as young as I used to be and we moved EVERYTHING that touches the floor more than once in the last 7 days. But, on the bright side, I have my spring dusting and cleaning done now. Speaking of dust, I would love your protocol! Take care dear one.
Susan says
So good to hear from you! Enjoy every second of beautiful beach time. I’m actually at the beach with two of my granddaughters right now. Love it!!!! I sent you the protocol. Would you let me know if you got it?

Susan, I love all your content!
You are truly amazing. I too suffer from sinus issues and I would love your protocol.
I know that lavender, peppermint and lemon help with sinus issues, but how are you using them?
I also go to see my acupuncturist when they are really bad and that helps too. Please send protocol. xoxoxoxo Mia

Mia, I’m so sorry that I missed your comment until today. I will share the link to my protocol! Let me know if you can’t get it to open. You will probably have to copy and paste it into your browzer because I couldn’t make it a link in this comment.

I would love to hear your protocol for allergies! I take an allergy pill once a day for LIFE! I’ve even had sinus surgery. The doctor said it’s safe to take, but I don’t know if it is! I would love a natural solution.
