My Yoga Story-
Sports have never been my thing. I played softball as a girl, but truth be told, I was always afraid of the ball and didn’t really mind my position in the outfield, where the ball seldom came. (I know it is a different story now!)
I wasn’t sorry that girls’ sports weren’t available when I was in high school, and I didn’t even belong to GAA, the Girls Athletic Association.
Oh my word, I sound ancient.
I took tennis lessons when we first got married and the teacher told me I had potential if I wanted to work at it. I guess I didn’t. We also played racquetball occasionally and I enjoyed that, but it was too inconvenient. Golf was fun, but playing with anybody new resulted in horrible nerves that lead to embarrassing slices, misses and not- enough- mulligans.
Add to that a missing “competitive gene” and I’m a big, fat athletic dud.
Don’t hate me.
BUT…….Give me an exercise class and it is a different story. I loved Jane Fonda’s original exercise album, aerobics class and Jazzercise back in the day.
And then I discovered yoga and immediately loved it. I started attending class when possible and practicing with Rodney Yee VCR tapes almost every morning. The effects on my stress level were almost immediate and the physical benefits kicked in quickly, too.
I had found my sport and I didn’t have to “beat “anyone to WIN at it!
Woohoo! I LOVED it!
One of the items on my bucket list was to become a yoga teacher, so when I quit teaching 8th graders, I began to research how to become a certified instructor. I found several options, but none of them seemed like a good choice when I saw the reading lists for the classes.
I wanted to study God’s word, not false teaching. So I just waited.
One day, Holy Yoga popped up in a google ad; I followed the link, signed up and never looked back. Since that time, I have earned the following certifications:
225 Hour
