Holly at Full Circle Creations kindly tagged me to participate in this Eleven question thingy that is going round the blog world. I have never done anything like this before, so I am happy to give it a try!

My answers are a bit rambly so I’m going to do this in two posts.

  1. What was the last book that you read?
I just finished reading When Irish Guys are Smiling by Suzanne Supplee. It is a cute little book for junior high girls. A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon Suzanne’s blog Daffodil Hill. When I learned that she was an author, I immediately ordered several of her books from the library. This one was the first to come in. I will definitely keep it in mind for when my granddaughters get older and would recommend it for other middle school readers. I’m reading Somebody Everybody Listens To and it is really good. I’m going to post it on my facebook page so hopefully some new readers will discover a new author!


2. What is your favorite meal?

This one is easy! We go to my parents almost every Sunday for dinner after church. My two sisters and their husbands, our sons who live close by, Brady’s wife Alissa and our granddaughters are almost always there too. We have a great time visiting and eating my mom’s delicious food. Everything she cooks is great, but my favorite meal is one in the spring when we have fresh asparagus casserole, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mom’s specialty-buttery crescent rolls, and strawberry pie made with berries picked from her own patch. There is also more yummy-ness on the table, but I will stop here! 


3. What is your greatest accomplishment? 

The thing in my life I am most proud of is our three sons. I can’t take much credit, but I did try to be the best mom I could. My boys have become kind, hard-working, Christian men. Who could ask for more than that? 


4. If I could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would stay right here on our farm on the Illinois prairie. I know it isn’t the life for everyone, but you can “keep Manhattan- just give me that countryside!” I love living close to our families, I love our friends, I love our church family, and I love living close enough to St. Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Nashville that I can get my city-fix pretty easily. I would like to do a lot more traveling and see more of the world, but I am perfectly happy coming home to the peace and quiet and starry nights of our little house on the prairie.


5. What is your favorite childhood memory?

I have lots of good memories from my childhood, but lately I have been thankful and giggly when I think about my days in our local 4-H club. We used to participate in something called Share the Fun where all the clubs in our county would prepare a skit to perform at a big talent show. Our club was all girls, and to be a member, taking a sewing project was required. I am so thankful now that I learned to sew in 4-H. For Share the Fun we wrote our own skits, made costumes, and practiced for hours. It was good clean fun and we took it very seriously!


6. If you won the lottery what would you do with the winnings?


For us, we would take a year and travel the world. Since money wouldn’t be an object, we could fly home periodically to see our kids and grandkids or I couldn’t stand it. I would try to keep our winning a secret (not sure how we would explain being gone for a year!) so that we could anonymously do all kinds of nice things for people and groups. We would love to help some young entrepreneurs get a company off the ground that could employ a lot of people in our small county. I don’t think you help people by just throwing money at them, so I would use the winnings to help people help themselves. My husband would never stop farming because he LOVES what he does, and I would have a ball blessing others without them knowing it was me! Sidebar: This is never going to happen because I have never bought a lottery ticket. Farming is enough of a gamble for me!
